Can money buy happiness?
Why is well-being declining in Singapore despite rising income? Can money buy happiness? - CNA online, 14 April. 2024.
I invite contributions, feedback, opinions and experiences sharing from fellow netizens regarding today's commentary. I thank you all in advance.
Today's commentary is an interesting commentary and there is no right or wrong answer. We can ask 20 different people in public across different age groups, races, genders, different income brackets, different personal expectations, different social status, different family backgrounds and in different states of health etc and we are likely to have many different answers.
I am not surprised that the general well-being in Singapore is declining despite rising income and having a safe living environment because Singapore is indeed a very high stressed and expensive place to live in and to bring up a family among others.
Many people whom we don't know well enough are swimming against the tides daily and struggling, so to speak, and definitely swallowing more and more water along the way.
It is no fun and when push comes to shove, it could be a flight or continuous fighting matter, not only for themselves but for their children too.
The above is just my brief 2 cents of thought.
Think.

There are very many angry readers in this forum.
Most of them very angry because the members of the existing ruling party pay themselves millions, every month laughing all the way to the bank.
It would therefore appear that money could make these angry people not angry. In other words, for these angry people, money could buy them happiness.

Money can buy happiness. All Singaporeans money lock in property. Government got money never distribute to people. Singapore is a boring place when government never build recreation well for Singaporeans. No recreation, no happiness. For example, there are few or no indoor stadium for people to do exercise like jogging and walking during rainy days. Singapore have many rainy days and rainy days affect consistent daily training and exercise for sport lovers. All lands are so expensive result in very expensive theme park tickets, water park and zoo tickets which means similar to no recreation areas for Singaporeans. High cost of living means less happy marriage and less children result in less happiness. All unhappiness come from money woes. And government have lots of money in reserve.

This is what happens when the gap between the ruled and their rulers widen beyond a tipping point. When the rulers no longer had one iota of understanding or comprehension about the struggles of the people they ruled. When those being ruled are still in delirious that their rulers will take care of them.
How did the situation deteriorated to such an extent? It was always going to head in this direction when you have voters who are delusional and immature. The only option now is for the voters to grow up and take a dose of reality. No one cares if you die, the only person who will take care of you is yourself. You can throw away your vote, just don’t expect any changes either.

Simon, why you ask poor Sinkies whether $ can buy happiness? They worry about prices of 1 cup of tea. What $ is there left to buy happiness?
You should go to Parliament or Cabinet and ask those people. That is, go ask people with loads of money.
