Is it too early to be euphoric?

The sudden announement by PM Lee Hsien Loong on 15 April 2024 to step down and hand over the baton to DPM Lawrence Wong has taken Singaporeans by storm. Is this the coming of an era to give much awaited renaissance to Singapore/ DPM Lawrence Wong comes with very high credentials to take Singapore forward and he seems to be a godsend at a time of worsening world geopolitics.
But let's face facts. DPM Wong has done very well in tackling the Covid19 pandemic but what are his potentials as a prime minister is an unknown factor. He makes the most attractive promises that would mesmerize the people but it's still all talk. And how they will be fulfilled is still in the air. He declares tht your dreams will inspire his actions and may be uttered in a moment of flippancy. what guarantee?
PM Lee Hsien Loong pays very high tributes to DPM Wong for his exceptional competency in his undertaking. PM Lee Hsien Loong is doing this in order to cover his own character flaw in a subliminal manner. He is drawing millions of people's money for so-called public service but in actual fact he is really enriching himself. As David Marshall said what do they want to do with all this money when they cannot take it to their graves. It would be interesting to watch how DPM Wong views this obseene wealth which has been the wrath of the people of Singapore as a kind of plunder of people's money.Will DPM Wong have a clear conscience to reduce this inflated pay to a more decent amount in comparable to global standard. PM Lee Hsien Loong draws no less than four times the salary of the American President This will be a test of DPM Wong's humanistic mission.
I think in all respects it is still too early to give a verdict on DPM Lawrence Wong performance. Let's wait till he has settled down and perform.

Mr Yoong, please do not harbour any decent thoughts about Wong. Once PAP always PAP hor. Sure he tells a nice story now about being consultative but how long will this last? Goh Chok Tong also did the same thing and he went back to the knuckle duster Lee Kayu days not too long after.
So now PAP’s desperate plea to voters will be “We got a new boss so we need a STRONG mandate from you all so as to work together for the good of the country”. Sound familiar bo? It’s been used quite a few times already but fewer dafts are falling for it. Honestly, if PAP even has to resort to begging for votes on the basis of a new boss then you can see for yourself how low they have sunk. What has become of the PAP that loved to brag and boast about their achievements over and over whenever they had the chance? They know they have been screwing up and their vote share reflects this as well.
Let’s see just how Wong does when he calls for the election. Maybe he is also a dreamer too, expecting 70% because, hey, that percentage was won by botak to be president! Same same what!

Straits Times: Swift handover gives Singapore’s incoming PM more time to make his mark – Chua Mui Hoong
The likely real reason for the swift handover is so LHL can blame LW for the big defeat for PAP at the coming GE. LHL knows the support for PAP will continue to decline and could even go below 50%.
The coming GE is a “referendum” of LHL’s last five years as PM and it will likely be worse than the last GE because of PAP scandals and fiascos and the two GST increases. By putting LW in charge next month he wants the next GE to judge LW few months as PM. This is ridiculous.
If LW wants to arrest the decline in support for PAP he should say LHL will not be in Cabinet. Better still he should tell him not to run. IF LHL is in Cabinet LW cannot change anything.

What is GCT now? Mentor Minister? Minister Emeritus? LW”s runway could be a short one too. One term? If LHL had handed over after the 2015 GE, maybe HSK or someone else would be the PM today. However, he stayed on for 2 more terms (9 years,2015-2024); 20 years in total (2004-2024). In conttrast, GCT was PM for 14 years (1990-2004). My guess is LW has one term if all goes well for him; if he gets lucky, maybe two terms.
