I read with interest The Today’s report, “'We will lead in our own way': : Lawrence Wong takes office as 4th prime minister of Singapore” (May 15).
We can get some inspiration or enlightenment from the story of the 108 heroes in Water Margin: they originally had their own abilities, aspirations and ambitions. They were originally meant to serve the court or ruler at that time. However, because they were framed and obstructed by some venal and overbearing bureaucrats/officials in the court at that time, they had no choice but to give up their ideals, visions and aspirations and finally chose to confront the court.
Although, the extremely rare examples cited above seem to no longer exist in this advanced and democratic era. However, there will always be a small number of very capable, talented and ambitious "fish" who slip out of the “deliberate” net cast by those in power.
In our highly commercialised and industrialised, competitive and democratic society, there are basically two types of highly educated young people.
One is to position their goals, aspirations and ideals about making money and building their snug family life, but they are indifferent to politics or society. We should respect the freedom of choice of this
group of people.
On the other hand, some young people not only care about their own careers or career development and family happiness, but they can also sacrifice some time to pay attention to their country's development
trends, politics, social and people's livelihood issues, etc. For example, we can vividly remember the unreserved devotion and sacrifice of their precious time and energy of the opposition members of parliament and NCMPs.
Undeniably, the ruling party has been dominating the parliament for decades, but, it can’t entirely or initially come up of every workable solution, strategy and policy seamlessly. All these still require the brainstorming and collaboration of the current and future opposition members to carve and refine them.
Anyway, Singapore really needs to build a more inclusive, democratic, open and constructive political scene or atmosphere in order to take Singapore to a greater height in the turbulent, unpredictable, dynamic and challenging macro/global political landscape.

Our great PAP had rolled out many inclusive programme like NEA Community Auditor Programme which volunteer help NEA to keep Singapore clean and green.
Residents in private estates help NEA keep tabs on neighbourhood cleanliness

Yes, the selfish ones which happened to be the majority of the sinkies. Unfortunately, selfish people are often short-sighted and foolish when viewed from the long-term perspective as the Chinese saying goes, “利令智昏” or self-centered preoccupations rob one of wisdom.
Sadly, many SG parents only realised their single-minded preoccupation with wealth and their own happiness meant that the country has now steered into a future that is dimmer, more uncertain and less rosy for themselves and their children when they or their children have problems finding a proper job and securing a good career. Higher cost of housings, worsening prospect of having good jobs and careers and overall higher COL are issues that creep in while they were sleeping and assuming that the government would take care for them. Many don’t even bother to read the news as below:

The daft ones are always behind the curve not only to political/social/economic issues but also potential dangers posed to the country. What if there is a sudden food and energy supply disruption due to climate change? Again, they just assume the government will take care despite the news (see below) already offering warnings that maybe we are just not equipped to handle such a scenario, being one of the 3 most densely populated countries in the world.

Boycott the hawkers, blacklist them on social media or cook your own meals.
Nowadays NTUC and Sheng Siong had plenty of ready to cook ingredients (cut fish, curry paste etc etc) that does not hurt your pockets.
Go visit NTUC Parkway Parade and see yourselves. NTUC certainly had evolved with times to serve the masses.

IT IS TIME TO BUILD FULL-FLEDGED RETIREMENT VILLAGES,IS IT NOT?
HDB must look into building Retirement Villages that are self-sufficient in terms of LIVING CONDITIONS that are more suitable and RELEVANT to our Ageing Populace.
Not all elderly have children living with them and MANY ELDERLY SGS are SINGLES too.
A full-fledged Retirement Village can include a medicare facility for aged sick who are not in critical condition.
Can provision for Physio/Elderly-centred excercise facilities,pharmacy,minimart ,theterette,Laundry Service,etc.
All FLATS will be fully wired up to a Security Room.
Security/Nursing officers can MONITOR the safety and “urgent” needs of elderly at an “instance” when the sick elderly occupant can PRESS A BUZZER connected to the Security/Nursing room.
If any elderly is in need of assistance,help can be obtained almost unstantly/without undue delay.
The RETIREMENT VILLAGE is to be FENCED UP for Better Security too.
What we have now at Admiralty,Flexi 2-room,Community Flats are still LACKING UN VARIOUS WAYS.
RETIREMENT VILLAGES THAT CATER TO SGS SENIOR ONLY CAN GO A LONG WAY TO MAKE BETTER LIVING FOR BOTH YOUNG AND OLD.
The YOUNG N FAST-PACED CAN GO HURRYING AROUND WITHOUT HAVING TO CAUSE ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES TO THE LESS MOBILE(DYNAMIC) SENIORS.
SENIORS CAN TRULY GO ABOUT AT THEIR OWN PACE AND TIME AND NOT BE SEEN TO CAUSE “OBSTRUCTION” TO THE FAST-PACED YOUNGER ONES.
This way,SENIORS WONT BE ACCUSED OF COMOETING WITH YOUNG SGS FOR HDBs and only PRs can be blamed???
