The All-Time Top Singaporean Poker Players
Poker is one of the world's most popular games with games being played recreationally and professionally. Competitive poker tournaments can be extremely lucrative for top players, with winners being able to scoop millions of dollars in the most prestigious tournaments.
The GCA (Gambling Control Act 2022) strictly regulates Singapore's gambling industry, and online poker operations are prohibited. However, consumers can still enjoy online poker in Singapore by accessing offshore gambling sites.
Gambling expert Alan Kendall explains that operations licensed elsewhere can provide secure betting opportunities for consumers, with additional security possible by playing with cryptocurrencies and using a VPN.
Online gambling has provided more accessibility for recreational and professional players, helping all levels of players improve.
Serving as an inspiration to all poker players in Singapore are those at the top of the all-time money leaderboard. Kenneth Kee Wee Kiang is currently top of this list having earned $4,367,263 up to this point.
While this huge figure places him as the top Singaporean poker player of all time, he is only in 465th place on the global list.
He became a professional poker player in 2013 and dedicates an average of between 12 and 16 hours playing poker every day to hone his craft. The Texas Hold 'Em specialist puts his success down to his in-depth knowledge of poker, ability to read other players, great memory, and being well disciplined.
Alex Xiang Wei Lee is the second of four Singaporean poker players to have earned over a million dollars in their career and currently has $ 1,523,765 in earnings to his name.
Since turning professional in 2011, Alex Xiang Wei Lee has been a regular player on the Australian and Asian poker circuits and has a current GPI (Global Poker Index) rank of 1,217, and his highest position was 269.
Number 3 on the list of Singapore's top poker players is Diwei Huang who has earned $1,492,758 so far. Diwei Huang, also known as Bryan Huang, comes from a military background where he was first introduced to the game.
After leaving the military, Huang studied accountancy while also devoting a lot of time to improving his poker skills. He entered the live poker circuit in 2006 and was able to travel to international tournaments by bankrolling his adventures through online poker. Many players tend to focus on either live or online poker tournaments, but Huang's flexibility has helped him make a good living from poker.
Wayne Yap is the fourth and final Singapore poker star to earn over a million dollars, with his winnings currently standing at $1,419,184. The 34-year-old currently focuses on business enterprises and has also invested in cryptocurrency in the past.
With such a strong group of poker players to emulate, and others hoping to break the $1 million barrier soon, including Adrian Boon Chye Chua, Jun Hao Wu, and Chris Yeow Chung Chong, the new crop of poker stars will benefit from learning their trade with offshore and crypto gambling sites before hitting the major tournaments.
