Putin visits Mongolia despite ICC arrest warrant

Author: Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Mongolia for a visit, despite the risk of arrest under an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant for alleged war crimes in Ukraine. This marks Putin's first trip to an ICC member country since the court issued the arrest warrant in March 2023, accusing him of unlawfully deporting Ukrainian children to Russia.
Ukraine and human rights organizations have urged Mongolia to comply with its obligations as an ICC member and arrest Putin. However, the Kremlin has dismissed concerns, citing a "great dialogue" with Mongolia.
During his visit, Putin is set to attend a World War II anniversary event and meet with Mongolian leaders. Given Mongolia's close ties with Russia, it is unlikely that the country will detain the Russian president, despite facing pressure from the international community.

If not for the Soviet Union, Mongolia today would still be a part of mainland China. During the Soviet era, Mongolia was its vassal state. Until now, Russian influence on Mongolia is still prominently seen in every aspect of the life of all Mongolian citizens, including their written language.
After the collapse of the Soviet empire, western elements have beentrying hard to gain foothold in this landlocked country, with a view to dis-stabilise the country two giant neighbours.
There is little change in their feelings towards the Russian but the western elements have succeeded in stroking undesirable sentiment against the other giant neighbour.
The USA has taken the first opportunity to say they understand why Mongolian failed to arrest Putin.
If the warrant of arrest is issued against the leader of another giant neighbour and if the Mongolian fails to act, would the war monger still have the same kind words for the Mongolian government?
