Former minister Iswaran gets 12 months’ jail for taking gifts, obstruction of justice
Former senior cabinet minister S Iswaran has been sentenced to 12 months in prison in a high-profile criminal case that brought an end to his 27-year political career. In a surprise decision by the court, his punishment was double of what the prosecution sought.
Justice Vincent Hoong said Iswaran's actions had fallen below the standards of integrity and accountability, which in turn could have a detrimental impact on how the government carries out its functions. The judge also said holders of high office have a higher impact on public interest and therefore need to conduct themselves in accordance with their status.

Does not mean anything. Just another wayang. After he disappears from public view he can have his sentence reduced or suspended. Suddenly he will re-appear in some Europe holiday resort. But the people must think he is still in jail. Another magic trick to keep the ‘blur-like-sotong’ voters ignorant just before elections.
After all this time in the Regime, he knows too much. He can never be really punished without blowback if he reveals their skeletons when he gets out.
Actually they could have arrested him anytime. They are not that stupid. They must have known a long time ago. So why arrest him now? To show the people how clean they are just before the big con next year? To give credibility to the new PM? Never take anything they do at face value.
