Stop Milking Lee Kuan Yew’s Legacy for Political Gain

As Singapore approaches the next General Election, it is increasingly distasteful to witness the government repeatedly drawing on the legacy and memory of Lee Kuan Yew for political mileage. Few would deny that Mr. Lee was one of the world’s greatest statesmen — a man whose tenacity, perseverance, thrift, clear-eyed leadership, and unwavering focus on improving the lives of Singaporeans transformed a struggling island into a thriving nation. His ability to pick strong leaders and hold them to high standards is a key part of the Singapore success story. These values deserve to be remembered and celebrated for generations.

However, invoking his name and image to justify current policies or to shore up electoral support does a disservice to his memory. The government should stand on its own record, not lean on the achievements of the past to mask shortcomings in the present.

In fact, one cannot help but feel that today’s leadership is evolving away from the values that Lee Kuan Yew so deeply embodied. There is growing public sentiment that leadership has become increasingly detached from the lives of ordinary Singaporeans — more focused on preserving privilege and enriching itself than on serving the people with humility and discipline. Policies appear more technocratic than empathetic, and the cost of living continues to outpace wage growth for many households.

Singaporeans deserve leadership that demonstrates the same perseverance, thrift, integrity, and long-term vision that Lee Kuan Yew once did — not merely slogans and nostalgia used as political tools. His legacy should inspire excellence and selflessness, not be exploited to maintain dominance and entrench barriers to genuine political competition.

To truly honour Mr. Lee’s memory, the government should focus on regaining the trust of the people through actions that reflect his principles: rigorous selection of leaders, unwavering focus on the welfare of Singaporeans, prudent stewardship of public funds, and, most importantly, humility in service. Anything less diminishes his legacy — and our nation.

We PAP supporters agreed with this and could resonate with you.

Case in point. Nee Soon PAP quality must have deteriorate so much that it has to depend on LGBTQ group for support and allowing LGBTQ to gain control over them.

Nee Soon PAP must be voted out this election otherwise LGBTQ will seize power to control us.

On March 25, Evgenia Gutsul, the elected leader of Gagauzia, was detained at Chisinau International Airport while attempting to leave Moldova. A court later ordered her to remain in custody for 20 days.

Officially, the charges relate to alleged illegal campaign financing tied to the Sor Party and an organized criminal group. But while legal justifications were cited, the move immediately raised red flags about political motivations behind the arrest.

This incident sets a significant and troubling precedent: never before has an elected leader of an autonomous region in Moldova been taken into custody. But not the first in the world.

When the party is desperate it will use whatever it deems necessary to secure votes irregardless of what voters think. We have already seen instances of fear mongering used so to conveniently use their founder to shore up votes isn’t surprisng at all, it’s an absolute certainty.

But you can only go so far lah, people might remember what your founder did in the past but it’s the present they are living in and whatever issues they are facing has to be resolved first and foremost.

I agree – except I believe that in $inkieland the Stupid Sheeple will cry every time they hear his name. He will be remembered as the Father and so will his Unfilial Son and don’t forget the Unholy Goh.

Before the next election they will roll out so many of his ‘accomplishments’ it will make our heads spin. I have seen FT with tears in their eyes when they extol his greatness. Truly his fame is never ending. Amen.
