TR EMERITUS

As I am writing this article on my way from Shen Zhen (where I am based now) to Shanghai, my heart is heavy. Too much has transpired in the last 18 to 24 months. Almost every conversation that I have with my family, my friends is about where this country is going and how things have changed. Besides the usual rant on immigration... 

Dear Dr Balakrishnan, I refer to your comments on the YOG as reported by Straits Times on 16 Sept 2010. You said the permanent legacy of being the Games' first host country would ensure that we remain on the international radar screen. But not many people remember where the first World Cup or where the first Grand Prix was held.... 

Dear Dr George, I refer to the 11 Sept 2010 Straits Times report of your comments on the book "Divercity Singapore". You said a sense of history is missing from the hot topic of immigration as though it will fundamentally change our perspectives. It will not. But that's not because we ignore history but because history shows...
