I juz came across this quote from the novelist EM Forster who gave two cheers for democracy: “One because it admits variety, and two because it permits criticism.” Need I say more on why the PAP doesn’t do democracy?  It doesn’t like variety or criticism, and 60% of S’poreans like it that way.
