Doesn’t Tharman think it’s too late?

Now only after the undeserving Halimah Yacob has been selected and installed as the President then Tharman comes out to say that he "would have preferred a contest". Why didn't he voice out his opinion before or during the "nomination day"? Or better still, why didn't he voice out when the cynical manipulation of the EP Act...
