GST increase in 2024GST increase in 2024 On 1 Jan 2024 GST rises 1% from 8% to 9%; this is a 12.5% increase in GST. I am not convinced that this is necessary. Dr Chee Soon Juan: The stakes have never been higher for Singaporeans

Dr Chee Soon Juan: The stakes have never been higher for Singaporeans

"The stakes in the next general election have never been higher for Singaporeans," quipped Singapore Democratic Party's Secretary General Dr Chee Soon Juan at the SDP pre-election rally last Saturday which drew a larger than expected crowd of nearly 400 people. Dr Chee was referring to the hordes of foreigners that the PAP regime has been bringing into Singapore after the 2006 general election which have changed the demographics of Singapore to beyond recognition. All of sudden without warning, the PAP regime opens the flood-gates indiscriminately to foreigners from all over the world in its misguided "dream" to increase Singapore's population to 6.5 million people without consultation with Singaporeans. Due to the PAP's pro-foreigner and ultra-liberal immigration policies, foreigners now make up nearly 40 percent of Singapore's population. Of the remaining 60 percent who are citizens, an increasing number are born overseas. In a moving speech, Dr Chee said the PAP wants to increase Singapore's population to 6.5 million people from the present 5.08 million in a decade's time and three-quarters of the 1.5 million is likely to come from immigrations. He warns that Singaporeans will have no future in Singapore if the PAP is allowed to remain in power without any opposition to check on it. "All we're doing is bringing in cheap foreign labor...Citizens can't make a decent living when they have to compete with foreigners...When you bring such numbers in a short period of time, you're asking for trouble," Dr Chee added. It is an open secret among Singaporeans that the PAP's indiscrimate mass immigration policy is for its long-term political survival. As it continues to lose support among native Singaporeans, foreigners and hence new citizens provide new votes to enable it to retain its political hegemony. The coming election may be the last window of opportunity for true blue Singaporeans to reclaim their beloved country after which they will surely be dominated and overwhelmed by the PAP regime and its new pets from elsewhere. No say? It’s simply not true, she says

No say? It’s simply not true, she says

Dear Straits Times,   I refer to the letter by Ms Margo McCutcheon dated 17 Sept 2010.   Ms McCutcheon is astounded by the tremendous changes in Singapore over her three year absence.  She concludes that Singapore is hard to beat.  But Singapore isn't the only place where development has been rapid.  East Asia on the whole has been moving very rapidly so Ms McCutcheon would be similarly astounded had she visited Shanghai, Tianjin or other Chinese cities.   Ms McCutcheon's American husband offered his unsolicited advice on democracy to a middle-aged Singaporean couple.  To him, democracy is just partisan bickering and gridlocked government.  But the truth is far from that simple.  Consensus and decisive action were clearly shown by American leadership during the depths of the global financial crisis when it was most needed.  The much debated US healthcare reforms were eventually passed nonetheless.  National issues are seldom as clear as black and white and if vigorous and robust debate is seen as bickering, then perhaps Ms McCutcheon's husband is merely trivialising without understanding the complexities and conflicting nature of such issues which necessitates robust debates.   Ms McCutcheon does not understand that the cohesive and prosperous society that we have today wasn't crafted over decades but nurtured over close to 200 years since 1819.   Ms McCutcheon misquoted MM Lee as saying that an open political market place could lead to racial politics.  MM Lee said he was fine with opening up politics but drew the line on race, language and religion.  There is a world of a difference between Ms McCutcheon's interpretation and MM Lee's actual words.  The former implies that political openness is dangerous whereas the latter is saying that political openness is okay except for race, language and religion.  Even MM Lee himself has commented freely on Chinese language issues from time to time.   Ms McCutcheon claims that Singaporeans have more say than her fellow Canadians and gave the example of the 'consultation' that Singaporeans had before the GST was implemented.  But like all the other 'consultations' including the one on casinos, the wishes of Singaporeans were ultimately ignored.  If the decision always goes against the wishes of the people eventually, it simply shows that we have no say.   Already, the government has taken us to such a severe level of overcrowdedness that could lead to a potentially devastating bubble despite our constant pleas.  There is much to lose unless we find a way to rein in this runaway government of ours which has the tendency of late to gallop blindly into abysses.  If the couple in Holland Village can jeopardise Singapore simply by shouting democracy, then Singapore must have been a pack of cards all this while ready to be blown apart by the slightest wind.     Thank you     Ng Kok Lim  Read More →

Wong Kan Seng: I will share probe of Mas Selamat’s escape with Singaporeans

Wong Kan Seng: I will share probe of Mas Selamat’s escape with Singaporeans

With famed terrorist Mas Selamat back in Singapore custody, embattled PAP minister Wong Kan Seng is now putting up a "wayang" to salvage his reputation to show Singaporeans how "transparent" he is. Mas Selamat made his outrageous "toilet break" from Whitney Detention Center two years ago and eluded his captors from the Singapore Home Team for four days before swimming (or limping?) across the Straits of Johor to Malaysia, making the PAP regime an international laughing stock. Despite calls from many Singaporeans to resign to take responsibility for the horrendous security breach, Mr Wong continued to hang on his position which is not helped by the fact that the opposition MPs dared not take him to task in Parliament. Speaking to reporters yesterday during a community event, a relieved Mr Wong said: "I am sure that Singaporeans are very interested to know how he escaped. I can assure Singaporeans that when the information he gives can be verified, and we can conclusively say that that is how he escaped, and without compromising on operational security, I will let Singaporeans know more about how he escaped." While Singaporeans are interested to know how Mas Selamat escaped, they are more keen to know if Mr Wong will be getting another pay hike at the end of the year. The Straits Times again tried to claim credit for Mr Wong by perpetuating the myth that Mas Selamat's capture was "the result of intelligence provided by Singapore." As a matter of fact, Mr Wong admitted himself in Parliament just a few months before Mas was caught by the Malaysian Special Force that he had absolutely no idea if Mas was in Singapore or elsewhere. The Malaysian authorities also denied categorically that Mas Selamat was captured as a result of "intelligence" given by the Singapore ISD. It is shameless and pathetic of the PAP regime to try to claim false credit for itself when all it did was to trouble our neighbors by allowing Mas Selamat to escape after he was previously apprehended by Indonesia. With the next election looming ahead, Singaporeans should be given a timely reminder of how the suffering they had to put up with as a result of the PAP's mistake and still got blamed for it. Instead of apologizing to Singaporeans, PAP strongman Lee Kuan Yew shocked the entire nation by pinning the blame of Mas Selamat's escape to the "complacency" of Singaporeans. Singaporeans should not be deceived yet again by the unrepentent PAP regime. Since Mr Wong is reluctant to resign himself, Singaporeans will have no choice but to boot him out of office once and for all.   Jeremy AuYong   Related articles: >> Mas Selamat back in Singapore >> Mas Selamat snubbed ISD officials  >> Mas Selamat: I was drugged in Whitney Detention Center >> Mas Selamat now safe and sound in Malaysia >> Malaysia undecided on repatriation of Mas Selamat   Please join our Facebook page here and invite your friends to do so to create awareness of the current affairs affecting Singaporeans.
