GST increase in 2024GST increase in 2024 On 1 Jan 2024 GST rises 1% from 8% to 9%; this is a 12.5% increase in GST. I am not convinced that this is necessary. PAP allowed Temasek Review to exist for their own benefit?

PAP allowed Temasek Review to exist for their own benefit?

I suspect PAP had always wanted an avenue like TR kept opened; so long as as it does not challenge their mainstream mouthpiece like ST and others. Because where else can they feel the pulse of the ordinary folks without having to pay for it?…..since TR is paying out of it’s own pockets to exist and people like you and me are feeding information, arguments & counter arguments(if not solutions)–for PAP at our time and our expenses. It’s a nice arrangement that PAP would not want to upset now. But given a critical situation when TR needs to be shut down for a day or a week; PAP has all the resources….and they will do it. So,TR don’t be lulled into this false notion that all is well and will be well. You may be tempted to ask what is the rational or logic behind to allow sites like TR to exist since PAP can close TR anytime….Because closing sites like TR would draw PAP into international condemnation and force sites like TR to go underground….whereas allowing sites like TR to exist gives PAP to monitor TR activities and at the same time appear to be democratic to global netizens. Just like our elections thingy….whenever PAP is questioned how is that PAP rules Singapore for 50 years if it’s not dictatorial for which MM goes around the world replying that PAP wins every GE fair and square—democratically.Their justification to be in power, and accepted by the free world. Similarly, all that freedom of speech in the net we now enjoy is tolerated by PAP ,but also PAP knows when exactly to switch off that breath and length of freedom in net too.Just like in every GE,it cuts and snips credible opposition candidates with defamation suits–so that opposition candidate families, kith ,kins and friends would kneel down and beg them to withdraw or back down. I am sure PAP knows when to shut down TR when the time comes. Never, never underestimate PAP deep pockets.   BPIR  Read More →

PAP supporters rush to defend PAP’s brand of “democracy”

PAP supporters rush to defend PAP’s brand of “democracy”

PAP supporters and sycophants are fast running out of excuses to defend the PAP's brand of "democracy" which has come under increasing fire of late from young Singaporeans. Blogger Gerald Giam's letter to the Straits Times Forum lately criticizing Singapore's democracy expectedly brought about a barrage of counter-attacks from PAP supporters who rehashed the same old PAP rhetoric that a small country like Singapore requires a "strong government" to survive and prosper. Using the United States as an example, Theodore Yeo claimed that its "partisan division" resulted in endless political bickering and slows down the implementation of policies on the ground: "When we are in a crisis, the Government is free to act swiftly. When manufacturing jobs were lost to China, the Government's response was swift, as was its rapid reaction to the global recession." (read more here) What was not mentioned is the fact that mistakes were made swiftly too and there is no opposition in parliament to hold the PAP accountable. For example, the flood-gates were swung wide open to immigrants without any prior study done on its negative implications, leading to the predicament we are curently in. The fact that the PAP regime is desperately trying to reverse the damage done is a tacit acknowledgement of its serious lapse in judgement. Had we had more alternative voices in parliament to debate on the immigration issue properly and thoroughly, the policy could be better crafted and implemented on the ground. Another PAP supporter and likely new citizen from China Tang Li claimed that "a large part of Singapore's success is because we have been blessed with a transparent and competent leadership that has led our society to prosperity." (read more here) Recent examples have illustrated the fact that PAP leaders are neither transparent or competent. Till today, we still do not know the exact amount of losses GIC and Temasek Holdings incurred during the global financial crisis. The rampant flooding, YOG fracas, sky-rocketing HDB flat prices, stagnant wages and widening income gap is an indictment of the PAP leaders' gross incompetence and ineptitude in tackling the problems faced by ordinary Singaporeans. She added that the PAP regime "is aware of the public's opinion and acts to contain it before Election Day" which is hardly reflective of a proactive government which plans well ahead and eschews populist policies as always proclaimed by PAP leaders themselves. In any case, the use of the term "democracy" is inappropriate in Singapore's context because it is a repressive, fascist, totalitarian state akin to the likes of Burma, Iran and North Korea.   Please join our Facebook page here and invite your friends to do so to create awareness of the current affairs affecting Singaporeans. Teacher Threw Pencil Case at Sleepy Boy on the Doze

Teacher Threw Pencil Case at Sleepy Boy on the Doze

An 11-year-old boy was hit by a pencil case thrown by his teacher when he dozed off on his desk during lesson. The impact inflicted a bruise with a red sore on his front head. Furious, his parents went to school to seek for an explanation. The boy’s surname is Lim, a Primary 5 student. He is studying in a primary school in Sembawang. It all happened on Monday at about 10.45am. The boy was having his Science lesson. His Science teacher was also his form teacher.   The boy said that he was very tired that morning, so he rested his head on his desk. Initially he was still listening attentively, but he gave up to the doze as he closed his eyes and fell asleep. “He wasn’t even 5 minutes into his sleep when a ‘bap’ sounded. After that he felt a slight sore bump on his pate. His classmates were laughing at him as he cried in pain,” said the boy’s mother Mrs Lim. According to her son’s account, his form teacher issued a stern scolding, “Don’t sleep in my class!” The boy did not tell his parents about the incident instantly. When he was having tuition the next day, he finally poured out all that had happened to his tuition teacher. The tuition teacher immediately informed Mrs Lim. Mrs Lim and her husband were strongly dissatisfied with the way the matter was handled by the form teacher. They went to the school in the morning to find out about the incident and also requested for their son to swop to another class. Mrs Lim said that the school has reached an agreement with them and they are satisfied with the arrangement. Having been hit by the pencil case, their son recently complains about giddiness, headaches, and the phobia of going to school. Mrs Lim revealed that after the incident, a bruise and a red sore appeared on the front part of her son’s head. During this period, her son complains of giddiness and headaches which affect his studies. “Now he is reluctant to go to school. His whole class had witnessed the incident and some classmates make fun of him. He has this subconscious fear of going to school now and he is afraid of getting too close with his classmates.” Mrs Lim explained that it was due to this reason that they requested for their son to be transferred to another class. This was to give his son a new environment to continue his studies. “My son mentioned that he would recall that fateful day whenever he sees those classmates who were present during the incident. He would be able to concentrate more if he swops to another class.”  Comment from the translator – AE86 While we treasure the old value of “Spare the rod and spoil the child”, we should also observe whether certain acts are appropriate or not. If anyone has watched the Jap hit drama Engine, the following classic dialogue between Takuya and the girls might be a ringer. “我不去道歉,因为那些欧巴桑太过分了,她们说我们收养院的坏话。” (Girls: I am not going to apologize, because those aunties were too much. They spoke ill of our home.) “是,她们确实很过分,但使用了武器的是你们吧?” (Takuya: Yes, they were too much, indeed. But you used weapons, didn’t you?) “我只是向她们扔了章鱼烧。” (Girls: We only threw octopus balls at them.) “章鱼烧就是武器噢。吃的东西为什么想要去扔啊,什么章鱼烧啊和手枪是一样的,使用了是可耻的,想说什么,想做什么的话,就好好去说去做,用了可耻的手段的话就一定要去道歉!” (Takuya: Then the octopus balls are weapons. Why would you throw something that is edible at people? Octopus balls or guns – they are the same. That’s shameful. If you want to say anything or do anything, just do it in the right way. You must apologize if you have used such shameful methods!)   Original article by: 23 Sep 2010, Thursday - Lianhe Wanbao Translated by AE86  Read More →
