Even at this late stage the PAP still refuses to announce the election boundaries. The Elections Department has already started to make preparations for the general elections. It has asked schools for an update on its premises for use as polling centres, reserved the use of void decks for balloting purposes, and, just this week, despatched elections officials to check out potential venues for nomination centres. And yet with all the changes to the boundaries, the PAP is still hiding the information so that the opposition cannot make concrete preparations and communicate with voters. This must be the only ruling party that touts its popularity at every opportunity but goes to absurd lengths to make sure that the process is as unfair as possible for the opposition. Not content with keeping the media under its thumb, allowing only nine days for campaigning (and even then takes one more day off for "cooling off"), banning candidates from speaking to voters in public areas, gerrymandering to ensure maximum advantage, amending the constitution to suit its own interests, the PAP is holding back the release of newly drawn boundaries. In the 1997 elections, the boundaries were announced one (yes, 1) day before the parliament was dissolved and the prime minister called for elections. Nominations took place five days thereafter and voting nine days. Blinked and you missed the GE. This time around the PAP has even more reason to make sure that the entire electoral process is as biased as possible. The floods, the continuing influx of foreigners, the shortage of HDB flats, and so on have all made the ruling party rather anxious. A straightforward democratic fight with the opposition would see many casualties on its side. Hence, the foot-dragging on the boundaries. But can a political party as afraid of a fair fight as the PAP claim to have the legitimate mandate of the people? Singaporeans must be alert to the fact that the control of the electoral system will ensure that the PAP's interests is served, not the country's. Gao Jingyuan A PRC "foreign talent" pre-school teacher, Ms Gao Jingyuan was charged today for stealing $200 from a colleague. It is not reported if she is a Singapore PR or citizen. According to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, even bus drivers and chambermaids are considered "foreign talents" which Singapore lacks. The media is full  of reports of foreigners and Singapore PRs committing crimes, some of whom are cleaners, construction workers, masseurs and freelance prostitutes. Till today, the PAP regime dare not reveal the actual figures of crimes committed by foreigners. Despite the fast rising public disgruntlement against the PAP's pro-foreigner and ultra-liberal immigration policies, PAP leaders continue to insist that only genuine "talents" who can "contribute" to Singapore are accepted  as immigrants. 40 year-old Annie Tan, a high-ranking executive at PAP propaganda media outlet Mediacorp, was aquitted today for banging her maid Vilma Lambino Manuel's head against the wall 3 times and slapping her face causing her nose to bleed. According to an earlier report, she had done this because her maid ate biscuits. The incidents were alleged to happened at her Bishan home on September 18, 2008. District Judge Wong Choon Ning aqquited Ms Annie because he claims that she found the maid's evidence "not credible", and that the maid's account was not entirely consistent with the medical evidence. If convicted, Ms Tan would have faced a jail term of up to three years or a fine of up to $7,500 on each charge. Going by how the banned book, "Once A Jolly Hangman", by British journalist Alan Shadarke, has exposed the local judiciary to be highly questionable when dealing with persons close to the state and its apparatuses, it is not hard for members of the public and the Filipino community in Singapore to wonder whether strings had been pulled in this case as well. Readers would do well to recall the 2009 case of Miss Lim Hong Eng, executive director of Shin Min Daily News, who killed a woman through reckless driving, and got her sentenced reduced to 1 1/2 years in jail to 1 day in prison! In Singapore, it seems to be one law for PAP's minions and supporters and another for the ordinary Singaporean. And there is another 3rd category for political dissidents where the law will be abused to severely punish any criticism. Miss Lim Hong Eng is the Executive Editor of a Singapore newspaper the Shin Min Daily News, a state owned and controlled newspaper just as all the other newspapers here. You could say correctly that her job is to write the propaganda that the PAP government wants her to write. Miss Lim was driving a car some time earlier and was not paying attention which resulted in her knocking down a motorcyclist and killing his pillion rider. The evidence was that she was not paying attention while driving. The offence being very serious, normally an offender having caused serious injury and death would have been sent to jail for at least 5 years. That is, if the offender was an ordinary Singaporean. But her fate was different and her sentence was reduced to 1 day. The few hours that Miss Lim had to spend with the police on the day of her sentencing is treated as 1 day having been served. Which means she will not have to spend any time in jail. Further, her Judge Choo Han Teck, reduces the fine from $12,000.00 to just $2,000.00. In the meantime, the motorcyclist who was driving is now in hospital permanently crippled and in intensive care. His pillion rider died upon impact and has since been buried. You might want to know that the permanently crippled rider and his deceased pillion were low income Malays, with little education and little money. They had neither affluence or influence with Lee Kuan Yew or his People's Action Party. Miss Lim by the way is a Chinese woman and an integral part of the Lee Kuan Yew machinery. Compare this with the case of the Filipino maid Vilma Lambino Manuel, who was abused by another high-ranking PAP media executive. By the way, you would also want to know that Judge Choo had expressly ordered that this case should not be relied as a precedent for future cases. This means of course that if another politically unconnected Malay were to drive and kill a couple of people, they cannot expect to receive a days jail and $2,000.00 fine, like Miss Lim, the executive editor of a Singapore newspaper!
