PAP strongman Lee Kuan Yew, who is currently away (again) in Kiev, Ukraine to launch his memoirs in Ukrainian, sounded despondent about his impending demise. When the Ukrainian leaders conveyed him his birthday greetings, Lee quipped that "at his age, a birthday was no longer cause for celebration." When you reach 87, there are very few leaves on the tree. When the last leaf drops, I don't know when, the tree will be bare. So birthdays are not for rejoicing, but birthdays are days for contemplating when is the final leaf going to drop," he added. Lee recently passed his 87th birthday last week, which has gone unnoticed by the majority of Singaporeans, saved for a few sycophants and foreigners out to curry favor with the PAP regime. A former Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee now holds the position of "Minister Mentor" in the Singapore cabinet which is unheard of anywhere else in the world. Though he admitted that he is not doing much work of late except "forecasting", he is paid more than three million dollars a year and travels frequently abroad on taxpayers' monies. In recent public statements made through the press, Lee has been dropping hints repeatedly that he doesn't intend to step down in the next general election. Vincent Cheng Mr Vincent Cheng and Tan Kin Lian will be speaking at the SDP's pre-election rally this Saturday at Hong Lim Park.  Cheng was arrested in 1987 under the Internal Security Act,  he was accused of "masterminding" a Marxist conspiracy against the government. A Catholic church worker, Mr Cheng was involved in helping the poor in Singapore when he was arrested. He was detained for three years during which he was beaten up and abused. "I was an ISA detainee in 1987," Mr Cheng said, "arbitrarily arrested and detained, never charged, never brought to trial and never convicted, only hideously and ceremoniously insulted and condemned. It is now 23 years. I still bear the scars." Mr Cheng was banned earlier this year from speaking at a seminar at the National Library earlier this year organised by the National University of Singapore’s (NUS) History Society.  Another speaker Mr Tan Kin Lian is no stranger to Speaker's Corner. He had organised a series of meetings in 2008 with investors who made severe losses from toxic financial products during the economic crisis in 2008. Tan Kin Lian Mr Tan, former CEO of NTUC Income, had rallied the investors and provded information as well as much needed guidance during a time of uncertainty and financial turmoil. He continues to provide financial advice in his blog.  Both men will be among a slate of speakers at this Saturday's rally who will take the stage that will outline the Singapore Democrats' message to voters at the coming general elections expected sometime at the end of this year. One clear theme that will emerge from the rally will be the rising cost of living in Singapore and inability of Singaporeans to keep up given the level of wages here, made worse by the PAP's policy of flooding Singapore with cheap foreign labour. These two intertwining issues will be the focus of the rally and the GE. SDP will be presenting their solutions to these problems and will also be holding a fund-raiser for the party where publications and other items will be on sale. Associated Press, 20 September 2010 Singapore and Malaysia agreed Monday to a land swap to resolve a dispute that has lingered since the two countries split 45 years ago. Malaysia will give up a train station it owns near downtown Singapore in return for a company owned by investment funds of both countries receiving six land parcels in the city-state, the prime ministers of the two countries announced at a joint new conference. Malaysia held on to the station after it expelled Singapore from the brief federation the two sides formed in the mid-1960s and negotiations over it have taken place for decades. "We are both delighted and relieved that we can put this behind us," Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said Monday. "It makes good political sense and good commercial sense." A joint statement said the two sides will decide the timing of the swap by the end of this year. Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also said his government will support the construction of a rapid transit link between Singapore and Johor state in southern Malaysia. He also said M-S Pte. Ltd. -- a 50-50 venture between Malaysia's Khazanah Nasional Bhd and Singapore's Temasek Holdings Ltd. -- will develop a wellness center in Johor. The two sides disagreed on how to tax that project but agreed to abide by a decision to be handed down by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, Lee said.
