Singaporeans assaulted in ShangHai by (PRC) Singapore PR

Singaporeans assaulted in ShangHai by (PRC) Singapore PR

A Singaporean STOMPer who is working in China, was shocked when he was physically attacked, and verbally abused at the Shanghai World Expo 2010 on Sept 4, by a mother and her daughter, who were apparently Chinese nationals with Singaporean PR status. He said he and a local friend were queuing up at the Uzbekistan Pavilion at around noon when a man in his fifties shoved him aside roughly and cut into the queue. Shortly afterwards, his daughter and wife tried to do the same, but the STOMPer refused to let them. This let to a torrent of physical attacks and verbal abuse by the mother and daughter on not only the STOMPer, but on Singapore. The mother and daughter called the STOMPer a ‘fatty’ out loud in Chinese and said, “Will he die just by letting one person pass?”. When the STOMPer ignored them, he said the mother and daughter continued insulting his ‘manhood’ and refusal to let them pass. When the STOMPer couldn’t take it anymore and told them off and identified himself as a Singaporean tourist, the daughter replied: “Oh! You’re Singaporean! We are Singaporean ‘flatulence’ (the girl has attempted to say ‘PR’ for Permanent Residence, but her ridiculous pronunciation has tagged herself as the Chinese pronunciation for ‘flatulence’) we understand you very well! You speak Singlish bad English *sic* and shamelessly speak it all day long!” They then continued with their insults: “Yes! Singaporeans are miserly, stupid and inflexible; can’t even let others cut queue for a bit! You deserve to work hard without earning much. You’re all poor blokes but pretend to be so high and mighty! Singaporean men are not men at all. The whole country is good-for-nothing!” Read rest of article here.  Read More →

Reform Party walkabout at Jurong West: More Singaporeans stepping forward to volunteer

Reform Party walkabout at Jurong West: More Singaporeans stepping forward to volunteer

More and more Singaporeans are stepping forward to volunteer for the Reform Party as evidenced by its latest walkabout at Jurong West today. According to RP activist Ms Irene Ho, the Reform Party has received more than usual email queries about volunteering for the party. She also noticed there were more people looking at them during the walkabout this morning. For the third time in a week, RP leaders and activists conducted a walkabout this time along Jurong West Street 91 where they met up front with residents to learn more about their concerns. Irene felt particularly encouraged by a new volunteer who said he is coming forward to help out because of an urgent need to make a stand now. He was surprised at the number of volunteers who turned up in the walkabout to which Irene replied: "The Reform Party has been (for many months already) diligently doing walkabouts for at least twice a week, each week. However, not many of our members are available on every single Wednesday or Sunday to help us. Therefore, (for example say we have) 120 members won’t translate to 120 volunteers. If we need 120 volunteers for our election, we will need at least 800 or even thousands of members. But of course, you don’t need to be member to help us. You can just be a volunteer." During the walkabout, there are strangers who went up to them requesting for information or to show their support by buying the RP newsletter. [Read Irene's account of the walkabout here.] As we can see for ourselves, RP has been working hard on the ground even before the date of the next election is announced, but its grassroots activities as well as that of other opposition parties are almost never reported by the mainstream media which gives the erroneous public impression that the opposition only makes an appearance "once in five years." Being a relatively new party founded only in 2008 by the late respected opposition leader J.B. Jeyaretnam, the Reform Party needs a lot of ground support from Singaporeans in its quest to provide us with an alternative voice in Parliament as well as an alternative vision for our future. If you are keen to meet the Reform Party or to help out at its events, please email James Teo at [email protected] or Jeisilan at [email protected] to enquire.   Related articles: >> Kenneth Jeyaretnam asks netizens to step forward to fight for democracy >> Netizens express support for Reform Party >> Reform Party leader voices concerns over police harassment of netizens >> Favorable response from Toa Payoh residents to RP/SPP walkabout >> Reform Party’s response to PM Lee’s National Day Rally speech >> Reform Party calls for a more rational labor policy >> National Day message from Reform Party >> Kenneth Jeyaretnam: 45 percent of Singapore’s GDP goes to foreigners >>Proposed strategem for Reform Party for next 10 years     Please join our Facebook page here and invite your friends to do so to create awareness of the current affairs affecting Singaporeans.
