According to Shin Min Daily, Kingston was supposed to sing the YOG theme song “Everyone” with four other singers, but declined to come to Singapore after negotiations about his singing fees with the organizers failed: Courtesy of Vote PAP Out FaceBook Despite the massive amount of resources poured in by the PAP regime to promote the YOG and the extensive coverage given by the Singapore media, the response from Singaporeans have been most disappointing so far, prompting IOC President Jacques Rogges to express his concerns about the “subdued fan enthusiasm”. Meanwhile, there are rising number of complaints from students, teachers and parents alike that they are being “exploited” unfairly by the PAP regime to generate fake grassroots support for the YOG. For example, JC students are being “forced” to attend the YOG events or they will have to do six hours of Corrective Work Order though the YOG is a non school-related event while polytechnic students awarded CCA points based on their attendance at the YOG games. As one exasperated JC student put it bluntly: “I think we are being treated like slaves. The college has handed down instructions that anyone who do not attend these games will have to do 6 hours of Corrective Work Order. Furthermore, the college had also forced us to go down and support the Torch bearers. This is rather oppressive and I see no difference between the YOG committee, MOE, the government and the Communists in China where people were forced to attend events just to make up the numbers.” He couldn’t be more correct – the PAP regime is akin to China’s Communist Party and North Korea’s Workers’ Party which treat its citizens as mere “digits” in the economy. HFMD Facts : Hand, foot and mouth disease is a common childhood illness. The symptoms include small, painful blisters on the fingers, palms, toes and soles, and ulcers in the mouth. Children down with it are often listless and do not eat well resulting in them having to be hospitalised due to poor appetites. The virus is spread through contact with bodily fluids and occurs most often in children under the age of 10, but can be seen in adolescents and occasionally adults. Last week alone, more than 900 children nationwide were infected with this usually mild childhood disease, bringing the year's total to 18,007. This is 67 per cent higher than the number of children infected by this time last year, reported the Straits Times. The number of HFMD cases has been at or above the warning level for the last six consecutive months; in the last seven weeks, it has shot past the epidemic level of 679 cases a week. About 65 per cent of the HFMD cases this year have been among children five years and younger. Of greater concern is the growing number of children coming down with the more dangerous enterovirus 71 (EV71), which can cause brain damage or even kill. Last month, the HFMD in 12 per cent of patients was caused by EV71. However, of the 233 children hospitalised for HFMD since the start of the year, none has developed serious complications. But the ministries of Health; Education; and Community Development, Youth and Sports have nonetheless been moved to act. One kindergarten in Hougang has been forced to close for 10 days on the back of rising numbers of its children coming down with hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD). Since kindergartens or childcare centres vary widely in enrolment, the law requires a 10-day shutdown if at least 16 children or 23 per cent of the enrolment - whichever is the lower figure - fall ill over a 24-day period. The closure will allow for the place to be thoroughly disinfected and for the chain of infection to be broken. This was what happened to Nativity Church Kindergarten in Hougang Ave 8. And if any kindergarten or childcare centre has at least 10 cases or 13 per cent of its enrolment - again, whichever figure is lower - falling ill within a 16-day period, the name of the pre-school will go up on the Health Ministry's website so parents are aware of the school's status. Honestly, as a Singaporean, I feel very ashamed of the opening ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games. Firstly, the news reported that the government burst their original budget on the YOG. At first, I was forgiving because this was indeed the nation’s honor to be 1st country to hold this event and perhaps there was some adjustment to be made. But VERY DISAPPOINTING! The opening ceremony is really LOW BUDGET! NO STANDARD! The performances sucks, the organization messy! Was there even a private company that is involved in the event development? With the government forcing NSMen and students to support this event, are they doing this because they are of ZERO cost? Is the government fabricating the financial truth and use the spirit of the YOG for their own agendas so that its not so obvious? What is more disappointing is the news about the meals prepared for the volunteers. You may think that it’s a small thing but this news shows that there was NO PROPER STANDARDIZATION! Is the government just depending on its SPONSORS to fund the project without properly checking the welfare of the people who worked hard to make it happen? Then where did the cost of $5.5 million go to which was supposedly meant for the meals? IS IT THAT THIS COST IS PART OF A COVERUP TO COVER THE LOSSES MADE BY TEMASEK??We need transparency on where the $387 million go to because this is the TAXPAYERS money! With the recent news that MOST Govt agencies MISMANAGED & WASTE the public money anyhow, is the mistake being REPEATED again on the YOG??
