GST increase in 2024GST increase in 2024 On 1 Jan 2024 GST rises 1% from 8% to 9%; this is a 12.5% increase in GST. I am not convinced that this is necessary. In 2015, when the possibility of GST rising was an election issue...

Malaysian Awarded First Singapore Youth Olympic Scholarship

Malaysian Awarded First Singapore Youth Olympic Scholarship

Bernama, 13 August 2010 Malaysia's 12-year-old promising table tennis player Angeline Tang An Qi is among six young athletes worldwide awarded with the first Singapore Youth Olympics scholarships. Singapore's Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew presented the scholarships here Friday as a legacy of the first-ever Youth Olympic Games which the country is hosting this week, and as part of its commitment to the Olympic Movement. For the record, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) had selected Angeline Tang as one of the most promising junior players worldwide for the ITTF Hopes Team 2010. She was also the women's singles champion at the 2010 Penang Open Championships and 3rd in the Under-13 singles at the 22nd Milo Malaysia Hopes Table Tennis Championships. The six fully-funded scholarships to the Singapore Sports School aim to encourage the pursuit of excellence and forging of friendships. The other five recipients are Ebineng Seabe Beryl (Botswana, swimming), Jevina Raydon Sampson (Guyana, athletics), Nieto Herrera Janina Sofia (Peru, table tennis), Ang Wan Qi (Singapore, table tennis) and Phiangkhwan Pawapotako (Thailand, swimming). Thirty national Olympic committees submitted a total of 54 applications for the scholarships between February and April this year. In May and June, short-listed candidates were invited to Singapore for interviews and the recipients were informed of their selection in July. The scholarships are funded by the republic's Community Development, Youth and Sports Ministry, with operational support from the Singapore Sports School, Singapore National Olympic Council, the Olympic Solidarity and the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee. Dr Vivian: YOG venues will not become “white elephants”

Dr Vivian: YOG venues will not become “white elephants”

Beleaguered PAP Minister in charge of the YOG Dr Vivian Balakrishnan who has come under increasing fire from Singaporeans of late for bursting the YOG budget by an astonishing three times now tries to reassure Singaporeans that the YOG venues will not become "white elephants" after the PAP's mega "vanity fair" is over by the end of August. "So far all the indications on all the venues (are) green (and) we're all ready to go. We've been able to achieve world-class standards of competition venues in a very cost-effective manner. You'd notice (that) there's no wasted space – it’s space that can be reused after that, and we're also making sure there'll be no white elephants," he was quoted as saying in Channel News Asia. The exact amount of money spent on building new facilities for the YOG remains unknown as the budget balloons to $387 milllion dollars which even Mr Niam Chiang Meng, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), admitted to being “a bit naive with our initial estimates”. Despite calls for him to account for the spending, Dr Vivian continues ignore the concerns of Singaporeans and put up a brave front after his $7 million tour around the world with the YOG flame. The YOG has not attracted any genuine interest from the majority of Singaporeans other than some pathetic "astroturfing" efforts by MOE, grassroots organizations and the state media to save the blushes of the PAP regime. Singaporeans need not wait for an answer from Dr Vivian as under the unique PAP system of governance, everything is based on "trust" and ministers can screw up big time and still receive a fat bonus at the end of the year.   EDITORS’ NOTE: Has your life been turned upside down by the YOG? Please share your views with us. We assure you that your identity will be kept strictly confidential. We will be your UNCENSORED VOICE. You do not have to suffer in silence! Tell the entire world how you have been EXPLOITED by the PAP regime for its YOG!    Related articles: >> Civil Service Club offering free YOG tickets >> Journey of YOG flame costs Singaporeans $7 million dollars >> Corny YOG propaganda in Straits Times >> Tharman: YOG enthusiasm is real >> Polytechnic student: I don’t care about YOG >> JC students being “volunteered” for YOG >> YOG: What the HELL is that? >> YOG students being given “dog food” >> Singapore students forced to volunteer for YOG >> Poor ticket sales forced closure of YOG gallery section >> PM Lee calls on Singaporeans to support YOG >> Young Singaporeans hurl vulgarities at YOG >> Dr Vivian wants Singaporeans to celebrate YOG >> NTU students complain about YOG >> Dr Vivian: Sports is not about “petty politics” >> More than 300 Singaporeans joined “I hate YOG” Facebook >> CNA poll: 90 percent of Singaporeans “not interested” in YOG >> Slovak YOG Ambassador slams YOG venues of “school standard” only >> Two Facebook groups calling for boycott of YOG >> Free condoms for YOG officials and athletes >> Singapore helping to repair Jamaica’s stadium in return for YOG marketing >> Former stripper to choreograph opening ceremony of YOG >> Desperate PAP wants Singaporeans to get “passionate” about YOG >> PAP to Singaporeans: Give way to YOG vehicles or get fined $130 >> PM Lee wants Singaporeans to do their part for YOG >> Only six teams in YOG soccer tournament Please join our Facebook page here and invite your friends to do so to create awareness of the current affairs affecting Singaporeans. Singaporeans to PAP: Come clean on YOG

Singaporeans to PAP: Come clean on YOG

A consolidation of the top few questions on the minds of Singaporeans about the YOG. The Questions : 1. Was there a committee that was formed to see if the YOG will be beneficial to Singaporeans, if there was who were the body of that committee ? 2. Who was the one that decided the YOG was to be held in and during the time of our National Day Celebrations ? 3. When the Budget of the YOG was enormously balloned, who then or who were the person/committee that further allowed the use of Tax Payer's Monies by more than 180% of the Initial Budget ? 4. Were the students parent's permission asked and were they allowed to decline if they did not want to participate ? 5. Why was the YOG a non-school event allowed to ask for the participations of the schools and it's students, why... did MOE agree? 6. With the Exams looming who was the K.O.L ( Key Opinion Leader) who made this call and was it discussed at a Parliamentary level ? 7. Why were schools and the army and the police called in to help facilitate the YOG event, does the budget not include paymastering the event with real workers ? 8a. Were then the various Insititutions, The Army, The Various Schools, The SCDF, The SPF and the other relevant parties accordingly compensated for their resources and time ? 8b. If it were not what is the actual Figure in terms of monetary use by our Government that sums up the expenditure of the YOG ? 9. What is the total sales figures for the tickets and how much of it was bulk purchased by and Government Linked Companies, Statutary Boards, and Governmental Institutions ? 10. When will the exact figures be released to the public, if ever ? ( Ask them to your PAP MP's at your next meet the People's Sessions, perhaps you will get an answer..)   A Singaporean    Read More →
