A discussion on the People Action Party's Facebook about PAP Minister Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam's recent speech calling  on Singapore to accept more "foreign talents" to boost its economy has turned nasty with a Sri Lankan Singapore Permanent Resident/new citizen Mr Fahim Hameed resorting to name-callings to taunt Singaporeans critical of the PAP's pro-foreigner policies. A Singapore NSman by the name of Sahita Nilesh described the PAP's perennial dependence on cheap foreign workers as akin to the chronic use of steroids: "Relying on Foreign Talent perpetually to boost economy is akin to using steroid to maintain your health." This prompted a series of harsh rebuttals from Mr Fahim who asked Sahita if he is willing to do the jobs that foreigners do. "Are you willing to do the the Jobs what the foreigners are willing to do? Under the same hardships? If yes , then the PAP government has no issues in putting a full ban on foreigners.....PAP is the one and only Political Guru that can keep Singapore going and growing," he wrote. The PAP has always used the lame excuse that foreigners are needed to take up jobs "shunned" by Singaporeans. However in recent years, the PAP has accepted an increasing number of semi-skilled foreigners to compete directly with Singaporeans for jobs which can otherwise be taken up by them such as engineering. Mr Fahim, an obviously admirer of PAP strongman Lee Kuan Yew next launched a tirade at locals for wanting "free hand-outs" "If LKY has not used his intelligence and continued Raffles concept and improved on it, you won't be here today.... go get your self a life guys.. without sitting and complaining like a spoil little brat. That is what most of you Locals are all about , you want free hand-outs." He ended his "lecture" by scolding PAP critics as a bunch of "prejudiced SCUMS": [Source: PAP Facebook] This is not the first time that a foreigner working and living in Singapore has hurled insults publicly against Singaporeans including NSmen who have served two and a half years of National Service to protect these newcomers so that they can earn a living here in peace. In March this year, a YAP leader and new citizen from India Mr Sinha Shekhar sparked a massive outcry among Singaporeans by calling PAP critics as “DOGS” on the YPAP Facebook: [Source: YPAP Facebook] A speech therapist by training, Mr Sinha Shekhar obtained his Singapore citizenship in 1994 at 25 years of age. He joined the PAP four years later, rising fast high up its rank to become its most prominent face in cyberspace. He is currently the Head of Rehabilitation at Ang Mo Kio Community Hospital. He did not serve a SINGLE day of National Service. Since Mr Fahim likes the PAP so much, he should take up Singapore citizenship if he hasn't done so and volunteer to serve National Service. In a survey of over 2,000 Singapore citizens last year by the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), six out of ten respondents felt that national unity would be compromised by the presence of foreigners, Channel News Asia reported. However, 66 per cent agreed that "the government is right to increase the number of foreigners working here if the economy needed it." The exact questions in the survey were not revealed. Due to the PAP's pro-foreigner and ultra-liberal immigration policies, foreigners now make up 36 percent of Singapore's population, up from 14 percent in 1990. Of the remaining 64 percent, an increasing number are born overseas. Some places like Geylang, Chinatown and even the HDB heartlands resemble more than townships in China and India than Singapore as the PAP continue to accept more and more immigrants. Despite widespread unhappiness and disgruntlement among Singaporeans, the PAP continues to insist that foreigners are essential to Singapore and has exhorted Singaporeans repeatedly to "welcome" them. To show its "respect" to the foreigners, the PAP even splurged $10 million dollars last year to set up a "Community Integration Fund" to make the newcomers feel accepted, welcomed and happy in Singapore. Unfortunately, the gesture is not reciprocated with some new citizens and PRs behaving as if they own the country. In less than five days since its founding, more than 300 Singaporeans have joined the "I hate YOG" Facebook to express their disdain and disgust against the YOG. Created by a Singaporean by the name of Edmund Khor, the group described themselves as Singaporeans who are "fed up with the YOG". "The government ballooned its initial budget of S$105 million for the YOG to S$387 million. In contrast, this government allocated only $92 million to the ComCare and Social Support Programme for needy Singaporeans in 2010. The YOG is not getting support from Singaporeans. The poor public ticket sales says it all. It is an event organised by the politicians for the politicians and splurging on taxpayers' money like nobody's business. We hate YOG," its "information" section reads. From the comments posted on it so far, it does appear that the PAP's massive publicity blitz on the YOG has been counter-productive. Vincent Law felt that YOG is a complete waste of money: "They've pretty much got splurging tax payer dollars on anything other that the taxpayers down to an art form." Ray Bandie concurred: "300mil on a non-event which locals dont give a shit about? Just for international face-value?" Yang Mehmeh added: "Actually I hate NTU more... We are their students, for organizing YOG we already sacrified many things, rooms, holidays, etc. Still not seeing them try to help us in staying hall, while THERE ARE A LOT EMPTY ROOMS." Despite the extensive media publicity given by the PAP-controlled media on the YOG, most Singaporeans remain indifferent to it.
