GST increase in 2024GST increase in 2024 On 1 Jan 2024 GST rises 1% from 8% to 9%; this is a 12.5% increase in GST. I am not convinced that this is necessary. YPAP leader Sinha Shekhar back in ‘business’ after a month’s hiatus

YPAP leader Sinha Shekhar back in ‘business’ after a month’s hiatus

Controversial YPAP leader and new citizen from India Mr Sinha Shekhar who sparked an outcry in Singapore last month by boasting about him subletting his resale HDB flat for income is now back in "business" after a month's hiatus. His posting on the REACH Facebook prompted an irate netizen to write in to HDB to complain about him. HDB has since verified that it has given Mr Sinha Shekhar permission to sublet his flat. A speech therapist by training, Mr Sinha Shekhar obtained his Singapore citizenship in 1994 at 25 years of age. He joined the PAP four years later, rising fast high up its rank to become its most prominent face in cyberspace. He is currently the Head of Rehabilitation at Ang Mo Kio Community Hospital. Mr Sinha Shekhar is notorious in Singapore blogosphere for his description of PAP critics as “dogs” on the YPAP Facebook in March this year.  Ironically, he was later given an “Outstanding Contributors’ award” by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in person for the regularity of his contributions on the PAP REACH Forum and Facebook. [Source: YPAP Facebook] In the interview with the media, Mr Sinha Shekhar claimed he would be making a public statement to clarify the matter. However till today, nothing is heard from him. Neither was there any comment on the matter by YPAP Chairman Teo Ser Luck and his deputy Zaqy Mohamad which appeared to suggest that they endorse Mr Sinha's disparaging remarks about Singaporeans. Mr Sinha Shekhar had been keeping a low profile for a month before posting on the PAP Facebook yesterday. It is unlikely that the PAP will take any action against him. Due to erosion of support among native Singaporeans, the PAP has to court new citizens like Mr Sinha Shekhar aggressively to pop up its support base. It is expected that most new citizens are PAP supporters as they are thankful to the party who give them the opportunity to resettle in Singapore. Mr Sinha Shekhar would not have succeeded in life had he remained in India. Thanks to the PAP's pro-foreigner and ultra-liberal immigration policies, he now own a private property and resale HDB flat in Singapore. He would be able to retire pretty comfortably back home in India upon selling his HDB flat at a hefty profit years later.     Please join our Facebook page here and invite your friends to do so to create awareness of the current affairs affecting Singaporeans. Massive outcry by netizens at handcuffing of Lianhe Wanbao photographer

Massive outcry by netizens at handcuffing of Lianhe Wanbao photographer

A massive outcry has erupted in cyberspace at the "unlawful" hand-cuffing of Lianhe Wanbao photographer Wu Qing Shun by a Singapore police officer with many netizens expressing their support to the SPH staff. Mr Wu claimed that he was handcuffed by a police officer for no apparent reason yesterday morning at Upper Bukit Timah Road where he was taking photos of the flooding. The police officer did not tell him why he was handcuffed and he was led to outside a condominium where he was detained (again) for no reasons for one hour. Lianhe Wanbao was infuriated at the police action and vowed to get to the bottom of matters. The Singapore police claimed that Mr Wu was "handcuffed" as he was posing a "danger" to himself and others. Netizens and ordinary Singaporeans alike are absolutely flabbergasted at this fracas. Andrew Toh thought Singapore is becoming a police state: "Are we becoming a police state? This is horrible news if true. To do that to the member of the PRESS?? PAP's time is running out... FT issue, HDB issue, CPF issue, GST issue, homeless issue, transport issue, flooding issue, SMRT issue, Minister Salary issue, Town Council funding issue, YOG Budget issue... and now this!! We're gonna reach breaking point really soon." Andy Cheng questioned why the SPH photographer is not allowed to take photos of the flood: "They don't want news of the flood to leak out or what? Why reporter cannot take picture of flood?" An-Nur has a conspiracy theory: "This is a warning to all of your journalist types! And especially you bloggers who want to report on events in Singapore without any license... You are not to report on anything without prior approval from the government's media authority. The citizens of Singapore and the world must be informed only of the official account of what happened! It was rumoured that Al-Jazeerah wanted to do a special report on flooding in Orchard road and they are searching for media content. It seems that the authorities got wind of it and are on the look-put for just anybody who may be recording the floods." Patrick Lee urged Lianhe Wanbao to sue the Singapore police: "This is downright abusing of power. Who is this policeman to act as such or is he intructed to do so? No matter what, the police has no right to handcuff a person taking photos of a flood. This policeman got to be sacked and an inquiring conducted into the matter. Lian He Wan Bao should sue the police for wrongful arrest." The Singapore police is well known for harrassing and intimidating opposition leaders and civil activists. For example, the police actually bothered to follow opposition leader Dr Chee Soon Juan and filmed him selling his party newsletters at Bukit Panjang in 2006. The clip was subsequently used to prosecute him in court. The latest hand-cuffing of a SPH photographer who was only doing his job has damaged the public image of the Singapore police beyond repair. Singaporeans should demand no less but a full public account of what happened from the Singapore Police, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Law Ministry.     Please join our Facebook page here and invite your friends to do so to create awareness of the current affairs affecting Singaporeans. Please use our online web form to contact us.    Read More →

Ris Low’s new boyfriend doesn’t mind her reputation as a ‘scandal queen’

Ris Low’s new boyfriend doesn’t mind her reputation as a ‘scandal queen’

Ris Low's new boyfriend has something in common with her: they both have criminal records, said STOMPer rl. Her boyfriend is an ex-Mediacorp executive who was jailed three months for his involvement in a lucky draw scam. Ris Low was crowned Miss Singapore World 2009 in September last year, but her title was quickly removed when a news report revealed that she had been convicted of credit card fraud. She stole seven credit cards belonging to patients while working as a clinic assistant in 2008, and spent nearly $8,000 on the cards. Ris Low was sentenced in May 2009 to 24 months of supervised probation. The 20-year-old first shot to infamy when she displayed her poor command of English in a RazorTV interview, mispronouncing words like red ('rad'), bikini ('bigini'), and prints ('preens'). STOMPer rl tells us: "Her new boyfriend is apparently some ex-Mediacorp executive who was jailed three months for his part in a lucky draw scam. “He says he doesn’t mind her reputation as a ‘scandal queen’, because he does not have the right to judge her considering his own tainted past. “When asked about his criminal record during his interview, the boyfriend was calm, and said that he deserved his time behind bars. He says he was muddle-headed and had allowed greed to get the better of him. “He says ‘his time in jail was neither long nor short, but was the lowest point in his life.’ “However, his time behind bars gave him the chance to see the error of his ways and repent. “He swears he will never commit a crime again. He now believes that it is better to work hard than to take shortcuts in life.”   Source: STOMP  Read More →
